What is cawood kentucky?

Cawood is a small unincorporated community in Harlan County, Kentucky, United States. It is located in the central part of the county, near the North Fork of the Cumberland River. The community is named after Captain Henry Cawood, a pioneer and Revolutionary War veteran. Cawood is known for its historic coal mining heritage, and was once home to the Cawood Coal Company. The town also boasts a museum dedicated to the history of Harlan County, as well as the Cawood Ledford Kentucky Basketball Hall of Fame, named after legendary radio announcer Cawood Ledford. Cawood has a population of approximately 500 people and is located about 12 miles south of Harlan.
